![]() Nutrition Outreach and EducationThe Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) The Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) is the central focus of the Nutrition Consortium’s efforts. The program is administered by the Nutrition Consortium through a contract with the New York State Department of Health. Through NOEP, the Nutrition Consortium contracts with community-based organizations across the state, with a goal of increasing participation in federal nutrition assistance programs in these communities. Each organization’s primary focus is increasing enrollment in the Food Stamp Program. In addition, many of the organizations take on the goals of increasing participation in the underutilized School Breakfast Program and Summer Food Service Program. Each NOEP-funded organization has a full-time NOEP coordinator, whose job is to conduct nutrition assistance program outreach throughout their county or service area. They advertise the availability of the programs, and provide application assistance to clients. They also identify and remedy barriers to participation in underutilized federally-funded nutrition assistance programs. The Nutrition Consortium staff also conducts statewide outreach to expand child nutrition programs, and food assistance programs for older adults.
As a result of the NOEP community-based work throughout NYS, from July 2008-June 2009, 27,188 households in NYS received food stamp benefits.
